Community AFPA Trust BIG Quiz 2025 raises thousands for charity Published: 27th May 2025 Share The AFPA Trust BIG Quiz once again lived up to its name on Thursday, 22nd May 2025, delivering an unforgettable evening of laughter, competition, and generosity at the prestigious Royal Overseas League in London. Since its inception in 2023, the BIG Quiz has become a highlight of the asset finance industry calendar – combining serious trivia with serious giving. This year’s event saw a packed room of professionals battle it out for the coveted Rivermore Asset Finance Trophy and a top prize of £10,000 for their chosen charity. Alfa Financial Software emerged as the champions, winning the trophy and a £10,000 donation for Depaul UK, in a stylish and impressive showing. While Paragon SME Lending couldn’t hold onto last year’s title, they delivered a strong performance nonetheless. Rich Dewire, Chief Revenue Officer at Alfa, commented: “Depaul is a truly brilliant organisation that helps young people when they really need it, so to be able to contribute in this way feels amazing. “Huge kudos to my team-mates for their immense general knowledge, and many thanks to AFPA Trust for putting on the event – it was a thoroughly enjoyable evening. I’m already looking forward to next year.” “A massive well done to Team Alfa,” said Tony Packwood, Regional Engagement Officer (South) at Depaul UK. “The £10,000 will really help our work with homeless and vulnerable young people. Congratulations again and a big thank you to the AFPA Trust.” Second place went to a first-time BIG Quiz team from the NACFB, securing £4,000 for The Unbeatable Eva Foundation, while third place and £1,500 was awarded to The Leasing Foundation, who quizzed on behalf of the Coach Core Foundation – supported on the night by their CEO, Gary Laybourne. Adding to the evening’s excitement, Oliver Hobday, head of underwriting (asset finance) at United Trust Bank, won the traditional heads and tails game, pocketing £1,000 – which was generously donated to The Dylan Strong Foundation. AFPA Trust Chair Robert Taylor paid tribute to the tireless work behind the scenes: “The AFPA Trust BIG Quiz never fails to deliver an evening of joy, tears and laughter whilst donating BIG money to multiple charities. “Huge thanks to the entire AFPA Trust team – Johnnie Halliday, Adrian Langford, Julie Warren, Jayne Mayne, Michael Tyler Barker, and Monica Boulay – and of course our esteemed quizmaster Paul Mayne. Their dedication makes this incredible event possible.” The AFPA Trust also expressed heartfelt thanks to event sponsors Propel Finance, Paragon SME Lending, and LTi Technology Solutions, as well as to its valued charity partners. With more than £16,000 raised for vital causes, the 2025 BIG Quiz proved once again that in the asset finance world, knowledge really is power – and it can do a lot of good, too.
