Appointments Sponsored by Appointments GM merges South American operations and names Carlos Zarlenga new president Published: 29th March 2019 Share General Motors has merged its three South American operations – Mercosur, Andina and Central – into a single entity known as GM South America, and appointed Carlos Zarlenga as president. Zarlenga’s outgoing role is president of the Mercosur division, which covered Brazil and Argentina. The new organisation, which he will take over on April 1, covers the manufacturer’s operations in Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay. His previous positions within the company have included president of GM Brazil, president and CEO of GM Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay, CFO of GM South America and vice president and CFO of GM Korea. He will report to executive vice-president and president of GM International Barry Engle, who is responsible for the company’s Americas region, which comprises North, Central and South America. President of GM South America West, Ernesto Ortiz, will continue in his current role, managing markets in Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay and will report to Zarlenga.
