Auto Finance Sponsored by Auto Finance News Stellantis to invest $13bn to expand US manufacturing Published: 15th October 2025 Share Stellantis has announced plans to invest US$13 billion over the next four years to expand its operations in the United States, marking the largest single investment in the company’s 100-year history. The move is expected to increase Stellantis’ US production capacity by 50% and create more than 5,000 new jobs across manufacturing plants in Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana. The investment will support the launch of five new vehicles and 19 additional product updates through 2029. It will also fund production of a new four-cylinder engine, part of Stellantis’ effort to balance its lineup between internal combustion, hybrid, and electric powertrains. “This investment in the US — the single largest in the company’s history — will drive our growth, strengthen our manufacturing footprint, and bring more American jobs to the states we call home,” said Antonio Filosa, Stellantis CEO and North America COO, in a statement. “As we begin our next 100 years, we are putting the customer at the centre of our strategy, expanding our vehicle offerings and giving them the freedom to choose the products they want and love.” Filosa added that accelerating growth in the US has been a top priority, calling the market “critical” to the company’s global strategy. Plant investments The $13 billion investment includes both manufacturing and research and development expenditures, as well as supplier support, and is contingent on state and local government approvals. Illinois – Stellantis will invest more than US$600 million to reopen its Belvidere Assembly Plant, which closed in 2023. The facility will produce two Jeep® models — the Cherokee and Compass — with production expected to begin in 2027. The reopening is projected to create about 3,300 jobs. Ohio – Nearly US$400 million will be invested in the Toledo Assembly Complex to produce an all-new midsize truck previously planned for the Belvidere plant. The truck will join the Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator lineup, with production expected in 2028 and about 900 new positions added. Stellantis will also continue upgrades at the Toledo Machining Plant, focusing on new technologies and components for existing Jeep models. Michigan – The Warren Truck Assembly Plant will be retooled for production of a new large SUV available in both range-extended electric and traditional internal combustion versions. The US$100 million project is expected to add 900 jobs when production begins in 2028.An additional US$130 million will be invested in the Detroit Assembly Complex–Jefferson to prepare for the next-generation Dodge Durango, slated to launch in 2029. Indiana – In Kokomo, Stellantis plans to invest more than US$100 million to produce its new GMET4 EVO four-cylinder engine beginning in 2026. The investment will create about 100 jobs and strengthen the company’s domestic powertrain manufacturing operations. Broader footprint Stellantis currently operates 34 facilities across 14 US states, employing more than 48,000 workers. Its network supports about 2,600 dealerships and 2,300 suppliers nationwide. The new investment follows several manufacturing announcements made in January, which also focused on increasing electrification and domestic production. If approved by state and local authorities, the new funding would represent a major boost to Stellantis’ US operations amid intensifying competition from domestic and international automakers in the electric and hybrid vehicle markets.
