Fleet Finance Sponsored by Fleet Finance News Rightcharge adds AI to tackle fleet EV reimbursement challenges Published: 2nd October 2025 Share Payment systems built for traditional fuel cards are struggling to adapt to the realities of electric vehicles (EVs), particularly when it comes to reimbursing drivers for home charging. UK-based platform Rightcharge has introduced an artificial intelligence (AI) layer to its system aimed at addressing the gaps. The upgrade uses predictive algorithms to manage missing or inconsistent charging data, a common issue when home chargers drop offline or sessions fail to complete properly. The AI can estimate costs when data is unavailable and reconcile them once receipts are received. It also flags anomalies before they escalate into administrative problems. The company said the development will speed up reimbursement processes for electric fleets, reducing errors and disputes. For drivers, that means fewer delays and less need to resubmit claims. Finance teams, meanwhile, receive verified records that provide cleaner audit trails. “Fleet managers have been stuck with tools built for fuel cards in a world that increasingly runs on electricity,” said Charlie Cook, CEO of Rightcharge. “By adding AI, we’ve advanced what reimbursement software can do. Fleets get accuracy with less admin, and drivers know they’re paid correctly for every kWh charged at home.” The move comes as reimbursement is expected to grow more complex, with the potential for vehicle-to-grid technologies and flexibility services enabling employees to sell power back to the grid. Rightcharge said its system is being built to accommodate these future changes. Rightcharge’s analytics tools already give fleets visibility over charging costs and emissions. With the AI update, the company says managers can process reimbursements without interruption and, over time, use the platform to forecast spending, track trends, and refine charging policies.
