OakNorth has appointed Gergely Zaborszky as its new Chief Financial Officer, subject to regulatory approval, with effect from July 2026.

He will succeed Rajesh Gupta, who is set to retire later this year after more than five years with the digital bank.

Zaborszky will join OakNorth’s board and executive leadership team. He joins from Virgin Money UK PLC, where he has worked for six years, most recently as Chief Financial Officer. During his tenure, he was responsible for financial strategy during a period of organisational change following Virgin Money’s acquisition by Nationwide Building Society in 2024. Earlier roles at Virgin Money included Head of Portfolio Management and Financial Planning and Analysis, with responsibility for capital management, balance sheet efficiency and forecasting.

Prior to Virgin Money, Zaborszky spent a decade with GE in a series of international finance leadership roles, including CFO positions across GE HealthCare and GE Capital. His experience includes oversight of imaging, leveraged finance, working capital solutions and strategic ventures, including senior finance roles based in the United States.

The appointment comes as OakNorth continues to expand its lending activities in the UK and the US. Since its founding in 2015, the bank has focused on lending to lower mid-market, entrepreneur-led businesses across sectors including healthcare, real estate, hospitality, childcare and education, and manufacturing. OakNorth has reported lending of more than $21bn over the past decade.

Rishi Khosla, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of OakNorth, said Zaborszky’s background across banking and global corporates would support the bank’s next phase of development.

“Gergely’s extensive background in both banking and global corporates gives him a distinctive perspective on managing complex financial operations and scaling performance across international markets. His appointment marks an important step in OakNorth’s next stage of growth as we continue to expand both in the UK and US.

“On behalf of everyone at OakNorth, we are so grateful to Rajesh for his incredible contribution over the past five and a half years,” he added.

Zaborszky said he was joining OakNorth at a time of continued expansion and that he looked forward to working with the leadership team as the bank develops its operations in the UK and US.

“OakNorth has built a unique model that combines innovation, rigorous credit culture, and a genuine commitment to the businesses that drive economic growth. Joining at such an exciting point – with strong profitability, and an ambitious growth agenda – is a privilege. I look forward to working with Rishi, Joel, and the team to continue building on this success and to help take OakNorth to its next stage globally.”
