Independent Glass has expanded and renewed its transport fleet with a series of specialised glass-carrying vehicles supplied by Asset Alliance Group.

The company, which processes and distributes toughened, laminated, heat-strengthened and decorative glass, has added four Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vans, a 16-tonne DAF XB 230 glass carrier with a Bevan-built body, and three DAF XF 480 tractor units. The new assets replace older vehicles in its operation.

Martin Kiernan, Transport Manager at Independent Glass, said competitive pricing, vehicle availability and the supplier’s ability to meet its specialist requirements influenced the decision.

The additions form part of a mixed fleet of more than 30 vehicles ranging from vans to 26-tonne rigid glass carriers. Independent Glass operates its transport in-house and also runs articulated trucks and semi-trailers.

The four Sprinters – two 3.5-tonne models and two 5-tonne long-wheelbase variants – and the three DAF tractor units have been supplied on five-year contract hire agreements that include repair, maintenance and tyres.

Asset Alliance Group’s National Key Account Manager, Jim Agnew, worked with Independent Glass over several months to arrange the deal.

The business operates from multiple sites near Glasgow and from Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. Its fleet includes adapted vehicles equipped with glass-carrying frames, with some fitted for loading by gantry crane through sliding roof access.
