The certification measures a battery’s current capacity as a percentage of its original capacity, providing traders and buyers with a clear indication of range and long-term performance. Since the battery is the most valuable part of an EV, its condition is a decisive factor in resale value. The diagnostics are conducted by accredited firms certified by the European Car Remarketing Association (CARA). By reading SoH data directly from the Battery Management System (BMS) – which tracks metrics such as voltage, temperature, charging history and usable capacity – the certificate ensures accuracy and reliability. So far, SoH certificates are available for vehicles sold through Ayvens Carmarket showrooms and websites in the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Portugal and the Netherlands, with wider European rollout planned in the coming months. Frédéric Van Heems, Group Remarketing Business Line Director at Ayvens, said the move addresses one of the main barriers to EV adoption: uncertainty over battery durability. “Battery performance is a key concern for customers considering the purchase of a used EV,” he said. “With this SoH certification, Ayvens offers more transparency and helps clients to buy with confidence, while supporting a growing second-hand EV market and the transition to electric mobility.” Industry data shows that modern EV batteries are proving more resilient than early expectations suggested, but lingering misconceptions continue to deter some buyers. Ayvens hopes its certification scheme will strengthen the resale market, extend vehicle lifetimes and support the circular economy.
