Interim Head of Legal – 6 month FTC – Asset Finance – Greater London / Surrey (Hybrid)

Our client is a leading financial services institution and part of a wider European banking group. We are seeking someone as an Interim Head of Legal on a 6 months fixed term contract.

As Interim Head of Legal, you are responsible for providing strong leadership and operational management for the UK Legal team (currently comprising of one Senior Legal Counsel, two Legal Counsels, and one Paralegal). You will establish KPIs, SLAs, and delivery targets that meet the expectations of key stakeholders, coaching and directing the team to deliver a high level of customer excellence, while ensuring the continuity of the legal department’s activities.

Additionally, you will contribute as a member of the Senior Management Group, meeting SMCR fit and proper requirements due to the role’s accountability for the Target Operating Model and its responsibility for the effective running of the business.

What are we looking for:

• Qualified Commercial/Finance Lawyer (UK law expertise is essential) with solid experience as a Senior Lawyer or Head of a Legal department. Experience in the equipment leasing/financing sector, banking, or financial services is highly preferred.
• Demonstrable commercial acumen, with a proven track record of dealing with customers, vendors, and partners in both UK and European markets.
• Strong understanding of the UK litigation process in relation to enforcing debts, commercial dispute resolution, and relevant legislation (e.g., CCA, CCD, AML).
• Proven ability to manage, coach, and mentor junior and qualified legal professionals. Strong organisational, project management, and delegation skills.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication, negotiation, and influencing skills. Ability to write clear proposals, deliver executive presentations, and build strong professional relationships at all levels, including senior executives and Group-level stakeholders.
• Ability to analyse complex situations, monitor performance indicators (KPIs/SLAs), and take sound, risk-conscious strategic decisions under pressure.
• Highly self-motivated, with the ability to self-manage, use initiative, and operate effectively.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication, negotiation, and influencing skills. Ability to write clear proposals, deliver executive presentations, and build strong professional relationships at all levels, including senior executives and Group-level stakeholders.
