Skipton Business Finance CEO Greg Bell has been appointed Chair of the UK Finance Product and Service Board for Invoice Finance and Asset-Based Lending.

The appointment was announced at the UK Finance Invoice Finance & ABL Annual Dinner & Awards in London, where Bell delivered his first speech as Chair following confirmation of the appointment.

Bell will serve a two-year term, representing the invoice finance and asset-based lending sector and working with UK Finance, board members and other industry stakeholders.

He brings almost 30 years of financial services experience to the position, much of it within invoice finance and asset-based lending.

Bell said: “Having spent almost 30 years in financial services, much of that within the invoice finance and asset-based lending sector, it is a genuine privilege to take on this role and help champion an industry that plays a vital role in supporting UK businesses.”

More than 250 people from across invoice finance, ABL and the wider commercial finance sector attended the UK Finance annual dinner.

During his address, Bell highlighted the scale of businesses supported by the sector, which collectively generate more than £315 billion in annual turnover, equivalent to around one-tenth of UK economic output.

He also identified increasing awareness and improving access to invoice finance and ABL as priorities for the industry.

“We must make it easier for customers to understand what we do, access what we do and, ultimately, choose what we do,” Bell said.

“Invoice finance and asset-based lending have an important role to play in helping businesses invest, grow and realise their ambitions. By increasing awareness of our products, simplifying customer journeys and improving accessibility, we can help even more businesses benefit from the solutions our industry provides.”

Bell concluded his first address as Chair by calling on the industry to “make invoice finance and asset-based lending easier to buy, quicker to access and impossible to ignore.”
