Appointments Sponsored by Appointments BTG strengthens asset finance division with new leadership and senior hires Published: 17th March 2026 Share BTG has appointed James Dutton as head of asset finance and made three senior additions to its team as the advisory firm expands its funding capabilities for clients across the UK. The appointments follow the group’s recent rebrand from Begbies Traynor Group to BTG, reflecting the broader range of advisory and financial services it now provides. Dutton, who has more than 30 years of experience in the asset finance sector, will lead BTG’s asset finance offering nationally. His role will focus on helping businesses secure funding for growth and manage complex financing requirements, including cross-border asset finance transactions. Left to right: Paul Newman, James Dutton and John Edgerton of BTG To support the expansion of the division, BTG has also appointed John Egerton as senior relationship director and Paul Newman and Lee Lawrence as relationship managers. Egerton, based in Manchester, will cover the North West and brings three decades of experience in the asset finance market. His background includes roles with major banks and alternative lenders, as well as running his own brokerage. His experience spans areas such as vehicle finance, hire purchase agreements and financing for both hard and soft assets. Newman, based in Newcastle and Teesside, will cover the North East and has extensive experience in developing new business opportunities, managing financial strategies and building long-term client relationships. Lawrence, who will operate from Southampton covering the South Coast, joins with a background in asset finance sales and has previously worked with a number of established brokers and funders. David Mathieson, managing director of funding and insurance at BTG, said Dutton’s experience made him well suited to lead the division. “James is the ideal person to lead the asset finance division,” he said. “His knowledge, experience and creative ability to work with lenders to find the best solution for clients have enabled many promising companies to take the next step in their growth journey.” David Abbott, managing partner and head of financial advisory at BTG, said the additional appointments strengthened the firm’s national advisory capabilities. “The additions of John, Lee and Paul strengthen BTG’s reputation for providing comprehensive solutions to clients on a national level thanks to their respective experience and knowledge,” he said.
