TRATON Group unit sales rise 10% in Q3 as US demand rebounds

Share

TRATON Group reported a 10% increase in vehicle sales in the third quarter of 2026, driven by a strong recovery in customer demand in the US market.

According to preliminary figures, the commercial vehicle manufacturer sold 78,900 vehicles during the quarter, compared with 71,400 in the same period last year.

The performance marks a further improvement in sales momentum following a slow start to 2026 and growth of 4% in the second quarter.

Total vehicle sales for the first nine months of 2026 reached 230,400 units, up 3% from 224,500 in the corresponding period of 2025.

International Motors recorded the strongest performance among TRATON’s brands, with third-quarter sales increasing 48% to 19,900 vehicles, compared with 13,400 a year earlier.

The increase reflected a significant recovery in US customer demand, helping the business offset weaker sales during the first half of the year. International Motors’ sales for the first nine months rose 3% to 49,400 vehicles.

Scania Vehicles & Services reported a 3% increase in quarterly sales to 22,100 vehicles, supported by the ramp-up of production at its new Rugao plant in China and Brazil’s government-backed Move Brasil loan programme.

Scania’s sales for the first nine months increased 1% to 69,300 vehicles.

MAN Truck & Bus recorded a marginal 1% decline in third-quarter sales to 24,500 vehicles. While truck sales developed positively, demand for buses and vans weakened. However, sales for the first nine months remained 5% higher at 75,400 vehicles.

Volkswagen Truck & Bus also benefited from Brazil’s Move Brasil financing programme, reporting a 5% increase in quarterly sales to 12,500 vehicles. Despite the improvement, its nine-month sales remained 1% below the previous year’s level at 36,300 vehicles.

TRATON’s all-electric vehicle sales fell 6% in the third quarter to 770 units, compared with 820 a year earlier.

However, electric vehicle sales across the group increased 29% during the first nine months of 2026, reaching 2,670 vehicles compared with 2,070 in the same period last year.

Scania recorded a 69% increase in nine-month electric vehicle sales to 640 units, while MAN reported growth of 36% to 1,480 vehicles.

International Motors’ electric vehicle sales declined 8% over the nine-month period to 490 units.

The contrasting performances highlight differences in the pace of electrification across TRATON’s brands and markets, despite the group’s overall increase in electric vehicle deliveries.

TRATON Group is scheduled to publish its full nine-month 2026 interim statement on 28 October, providing further details on its financial performance and outlook.
