Signicat has appointed Emma Bauer as its new Global Chief Product Officer as the pan-European digital identity specialist looks to accelerate the scaling of its cross-border identity platform amid major regulatory changes across Europe.

Bauer joins Signicat’s executive team at a pivotal moment for the digital identity sector, with businesses and governments preparing for the implementation of eIDAS 2.0 and the Anti-Money Laundering Regulation (AMLR), both of which are expected to reshape digital trust and identity verification standards across the continent.

The appointment comes as Signicat continues expanding its Software-as-a-Service platform, which has been built through a series of eight strategic acquisitions designed to address the fragmented nature of Europe’s digital identity market.

Consumer identity habits vary significantly across the region, from the widespread daily use of electronic identities in the Nordic countries to more fragmented onboarding and authentication systems in Southern Europe. Signicat said its platform enables organisations operating in highly regulated industries to manage these complexities and scale seamlessly across borders.

Bauer brings a combination of technical expertise and executive leadership experience to the role, having started her career as a software developer before moving into senior product leadership positions in high-growth technology businesses.

Asger Hattel, CEO of Signicat, said Bauer’s appointment would strengthen the company’s ability to innovate while scaling its operations internationally.

“We are operating a highly sophisticated, innovation-driven one-stop-shop proposition to our customers, solving one of Europe’s biggest challenges: cross-border digital trust,” he said.

“For this, we needed a well-reputed scale-up leader who combined strong CPO experience with unique technical roots. An individual with the ability to push both shorter time-to-market, innovation, and new methods with all the toolkits the AI era has to offer.

“Beyond Emma’s impressive technical roots and product expertise, there is a very strong cultural match. Her proven ability to empower and manage high-performing, distributed teams across different regions makes her key to taking Signicat to the next level in our scaling journey.”

In her new role, Bauer will oversee the execution of Signicat’s future product strategy, with a particular focus on ensuring the platform remains ahead of increasingly stringent regulatory requirements while adapting to evolving customer expectations and AI-driven innovation.

Bauer said the complexity of Europe’s digital identity environment presents both a challenge and an opportunity for businesses operating across borders.

“Digital identity is the foundation of a modern society, but the varying consumer behaviour and impending regulations across Europe create an incredibly intricate puzzle for businesses to solve,” she said.

“Signicat has uniquely positioned itself to solve this by providing a unified platform that manages cross-border transactions. I was drawn to the company’s clear purpose, its transparent and collaborative culture, and its leading market position.

“This is an exciting scaling phase, and I am thrilled to help shape the future of trust across Europe and beyond.”
