Octopus EV partners with Admiral Pioneer on smarter EV insurance

Octopus Electric Vehicles, the EV-only leasing provider, has announced a major partnership with Admiral Pioneer to deliver a new generation of smarter, fairer insurance tailored for drivers taking an electric car through salary sacrifice schemes.

The collaboration aims to remove one of the biggest barriers to switching to electric vehicles: insurance costs that often fail to reflect how individual motorists actually drive. Rather than relying on traditional fleet-rated pricing – where every driver pays an averaged premium – the new model will price insurance based on individual risk, offering more accurate and often lower premiums.

Octopus EV anticipates that when the new insurance offering launches in spring 2026, three in four new salary sacrifice drivers will benefit from reduced insurance costs, with the average driver expected to save around £550.

Despite the shift to personalised pricing, the partnership ensures that the experience remains simple for drivers. Insurance will continue to be fully integrated into Octopus EV’s salary sacrifice packages, meaning customers still benefit from a single, clear monthly cost, with no additional administration or decision-making required.

In a significant advantage for consumers, drivers will also be able to transfer their existing no claims bonus from previous policies, unlocking even more savings, a rarity in traditional fleet-based schemes.

By moving beyond fleet averages, the new model aims to provide a more accurate reflection of real-world driving behaviours and deliver a fairer deal for EV drivers, while keeping the streamlined experience salary sacrifice users expect.

Gurjeet Grewal, CEO of Octopus Electric Vehicles, said the partnership marks a meaningful shift in how EV insurance is delivered:

“Salary sacrifice has become one of the most powerful ways to help drivers switch to electric — but the insurance experience hasn’t always kept pace.

“This partnership changes that. By pricing insurance around the individual, not the average, we’re making EVs even better value and keeping the experience simple from day one. It’s another step towards making electric the obvious choice.”

Emma Huntington, CEO of Admiral Pioneer, highlighted the opportunity to bring innovation to a sector ready for modernisation:

“We’re partnering with Octopus to bring real innovation to EV salary sacrifice, moving beyond traditional fleet pricing to offer insurance based on individual risk.

“By combining our deep insurance expertise with Octopus’ digital-first approach, we’re delivering smarter, fairer, and more personalised insurance for electric drivers. This partnership shows what’s possible when forward-thinking brands come together.”
