Hertz and Uber expand fleet partnership with Oro Mobility

Hertz Global Holdings and Uber Technologies have announced a major expansion of their long-standing partnership, launching new fleet initiatives spanning both autonomous robotaxi and driver-led operations.

At the centre of the move is the creation of Hertz’s new affiliate, Oro Mobility, which will deliver integrated fleet management services as the company pushes into next-generation mobility markets.

Hertz said Oro Mobility has been established to address a growing need for large-scale fleet orchestration as the industry shifts from private vehicle ownership to shared, commercially operated fleets.

Backed by Hertz’s experience in logistics, maintenance and fleet operations, Oro is designed to manage both autonomous and driver-led vehicles efficiently and at scale.

“Hertz has spent over a century mastering complex fleet operations at scale, and Oro is how we put that expertise to work in the next era of mobility,” said Gil West, CEO of Hertz.

“This partnership with Uber establishes Oro as an integrated solution that connects demand with scalable fleet management services.”

Under the agreement, Oro will play a key role in supporting Uber’s autonomous robotaxi programme, managing fleets of Lucid Motors vehicles equipped with autonomous technology from Nuro.

Oro will handle day-to-day operations including charging, maintenance, repairs, cleaning and depot staffing. The service is expected to launch in the San Francisco Bay Area later in 2026, with further expansion under consideration for 2027.

Alongside autonomous operations, Oro is also working with Uber to expand driver-led fleet services on the platform. The model uses vehicles owned and maintained by Oro, with drivers employed directly to meet rising demand for rideshare services.

Following a pilot programme in Atlanta, the service is now active in Los Angeles and San Francisco, with Northern New Jersey expected to launch in the coming months.

Uber said the partnership will help it meet growing rider demand while maintaining service quality and consistency.

“Partnering with Hertz’s Oro Mobility will help us continue to bring the best autonomous technology onto the Uber platform and accelerate the transition to a hybrid network,” said Andrew Macdonald, President and COO of Uber.

The announcement builds on an existing relationship between Hertz and Uber, which already includes one of the world’s largest rideshare rental fleets.

The launch of Oro represents a strategic step for Hertz as it diversifies beyond its traditional car rental business and positions itself to support increasingly complex fleet models.
