Fleet Operations raises more than £1,500 for hospital cancer unit

A team from Fleet Operations has raised more than £1,500 for Shooting Star Cancer Support after completing the North Wales Three Peaks Challenge in a single day.

Employees from the Newcastle-under-Lyme-based fleet management and consultancy business climbed Moel Famau, Dinas Brân and Snowdon, completing all three climbs within 12 hours.

The challenge was organised in support of Shooting Star Cancer Support, a charity which helps fund vital equipment for the Shooting Star Unit at Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

The cause has a personal connection to Fleet Operations, with the unit having cared for employee Dawn McGregor Dearie following her breast cancer diagnosis last year.

Dawn said: “I can’t put into words how proud I am of the team.

“It was such a physically demanding challenge, we were out for around 12 hours so it really was a long day. Everyone did brilliantly and the money raised will be going to an extremely worthy cause.”

Richard Hipkiss, Managing Director at Fleet Operations, said the challenge demonstrated the team’s willingness to come together in support of a cause with a close connection to the business.

He added: “This serves as a great example of the team coming together around a cause with a very personal connection to the business.

“They can take a great deal from what they’ve achieved together.”

Enterprise supported the fundraising challenge by providing two minibuses to transport the team during the day.

Donations to Shooting Star Cancer Support help fund equipment for the Shooting Star Unit at Wrexham Maelor Hospital, supporting its work caring for cancer patients.
