BCRS Business Loans has provided a six-figure funding package to support Pete Tyson Consultancy’s acquisition of environmental compliance company Qube Environmental.

The Staffordshire-based water safety consultancy is one of the first businesses to receive funding from the British Business Bank’s Community ENABLE Funding (CEF) programme through BCRS.

Following the acquisition, the two businesses will merge and operate under the Qube Environmental name from Stoke-on-Trent, providing water treatment compliance and safety services to customers across the UK.

Qube Environmental works with businesses, landlords and property owners, providing services spanning water safety and legionella control, asbestos management and compliance planning.

The company was founded by Judith and Ashley Richardson. Following Ashley Richardson’s death in 2023, Pete Tyson worked with Judith to provide training and support to the business.

The acquisition is expected to broaden the combined company’s environmental compliance offering and strengthen its presence in the region. The funding will also safeguard seven jobs, with plans to expand the team as the business diversifies into new markets.

Pete Tyson, Managing Director, said: “After 27 years in the water treatment industry, my ambition has always been to build a successful, growing business that makes a real difference to the organisations we support. The acquisition of Qube Environmental is a major step forward in that journey.

“BCRS have been fantastic throughout the process and genuinely committed to helping us realise our ambitions. Their funding package has enabled us to invest in our future, expand our team and strengthen the services we provide across the UK.”

BCRS, a not-for-profit community development finance institution, is using the Community ENABLE Funding programme to provide loans ranging from £25,001 to £250,000 to SMEs.

The lender also provides finance through the British Business Bank’s Midlands Engine Investment Fund and Investment Fund for Wales.

Stephen Deakin, Chief Executive of BCRS Business Loans, said: “We are delighted to support Pete Tyson as one of our first businesses to receive funding from the CEF programme.

“Qube Environmental is exactly the type of business we want to support and we’re proud that our funding has helped support the next stage of their journey.

“At BCRS, our mission is to ensure no viable business goes unsupported, and this investment demonstrates the positive impact that accessible, relationship-driven finance can have for SMEs across Stoke-on-Trent and the wider region.”

Reinald de Monchy, Chief Banking Officer at the British Business Bank, added: “This six-figure funding deal is a great example of how the Community ENABLE Funding programme is helping smaller businesses access the finance they need to pursue their ambitions.

“By supporting Pete Tyson’s acquisition of Qube Environmental, the funding is enabling the business to take an important step in its growth journey, while supporting the continued provision of vital water safety services.”
