Associate Member People Asset finance jobs: skills in highest demand Published: 6th August 2026 Share By Jessica HaasbroekDigital Marketing Lead, Resilient Management Solutions The asset finance jobs market in 2026 is active but selective. Total sector new business exceeded £40 billion in 2025 and is running 6% ahead year-on-year in the first four months of 2026, according to FLA data. The transformation programmes that growth is funding are creating consistent demand for talent, but the skills being sought are shifting, and candidates who understand where demand is concentrated will be better positioned to move into it. Platform and implementation skills The single biggest driver of skills demand in asset finance right now is platform modernisation. As lenders replace legacy systems with modern platforms they need people who can deliver those implementations. Implementation consultants, business analysts, solution architects, and programme managers with genuine platform knowledge and Asset Finance domain expertise are consistently the hardest roles to fill in the sector. What makes this skills cluster particularly valuable is its specificity. Platform experience without sector knowledge produces implementations that work technically but miss operationally. Sector knowledge without platform fluency slows delivery. Candidates who combine both, who can move between a lender’s credit team and a vendor’s configuration team with equal credibility, are in shortest supply and command the strongest market position. AI and data literacy AI capability has jumped from the seventh most scarce skill in UK financial services to the most in-demand in just eighteen months, according to Harvey Nash’s digital leadership report. In Asset Finance, this is not primarily about building AI models, it is about working effectively alongside them. The most sought-after profile is the hybrid professional: someone with Asset Finance operational or credit experience who also understands how AI-assisted workflows function, how to validate automated outputs, and how to operate within the governance frameworks regulators expect. The Financial Services Skills Commission’s 2025 report found that half of firms cite lack of human capital as the biggest barrier to AI adoption, and that adaptability is as scarce as technical AI skill. Data engineering, analytics, and reporting skills are also in high demand as lenders build the infrastructure for AI adoption. Roles combining Asset Finance workflow knowledge with data modelling and integration skills are consistently among the hardest to fill. Risk, compliance, and governance Legal and compliance hiring intentions across UK financial services jumped from 26% to 42% between the second half of 2025 and early 2026, according to Robert Half’s hiring intentions data. In Asset Finance, this reflects the FCA’s focus on Consumer Duty, model risk management, and regulatory scrutiny of AI-assisted decisioning. The compliance skills in demand are not generic. Candidates who understand the specific regulatory environment of Asset, Auto, and Equipment Finance, the Consumer Credit Act, FCA guidance on commission disclosure, and AI governance requirements in credit decisioning, are significantly more valuable than those with broader financial services compliance backgrounds. Programme and change delivery Demand for programme managers, project managers, and change leads with Asset Finance sector experience is consistently strong, driven by the volume of platform replacement, process redesign, and regulatory change programmes running simultaneously across the sector. The differentiator at senior level is not project management methodology, it is the ability to manage a complex multi-party stakeholder environment under delivery pressure. Programme professionals who have navigated relationships between lender internal teams, software vendors, and system integrators are disproportionately sought after. What candidates should know The skills picture points in a consistent direction: domain expertise combined with technology fluency is where value is highest. Pure credit or operations backgrounds without technology exposure are becoming less competitive at mid-level and above. Pure technology backgrounds without sector knowledge struggle to deliver in an Asset Finance context. The most effective career moves in the current market build the combination, through platform implementation exposure, involvement in transformation programmes, or deliberate upskilling in AI governance and data analytics alongside existing sector knowledge. What hiring managers should know Hire specs that list every possible credential rarely surface the best candidates in a shallow talent pool. The most effective briefs prioritise the combination of domain knowledge and delivery experience over any single technical credential. Candidates who cover the critical combination, even partially, are often more valuable than those who tick every box on a specification written without reference to what the market can actually supply.
