Now in its tenth year, the AFE50 is the industry benchmark survey, based on audited and publicly available accounts. For 2025, combined lease receivables across the top 50 asset finance companies reached €341 billion, a 1.9% increase on a like-for-like basis compared with restated 2024 figures. This measured growth highlights the sector’s resilience amid economic uncertainty and changing investment priorities. Key findings from the AFE50 2026: Top 50 portfolios: €341bn in total lease receivables, with the wider European market estimated at €490bn. French groups retain their lead: France remains at the centre of European leasing, accounting for 40% of AFE50 receivables. Independents lead growth: specialist providers outpaced banks and captives. Growth broadens: strong individual performances demonstrate opportunities across different types of lessor. Central and Eastern Europe gains visibility: two Hungarian banking groups join the rankings, alongside analysis of the Hungarian and Polish markets. The industry in context European asset finance providers continue to navigate modest economic growth, geopolitical tensions and an evolving regulatory landscape. Businesses are balancing the need to invest in productive assets with concerns about technological obsolescence, capital commitments and future demand. These pressures are increasing interest in flexible financing, usage-based models and support throughout the asset lifecycle. Technology and sustainability remain central themes, with leasing playing an important role in enabling investment in cleaner vehicles, more efficient equipment and digital capabilities.
