Fleet Finance Sponsored by Fleet Finance News Europcar accelerates van fleet growth Published: 12th September 2025 Share Europcar UK is ramping up investment in its commercial vehicle fleet as more businesses shy away from leasing or buying vans outright. The rental provider has expanded its offering with new Small, Short Wheel Base (SWB), and Long Wheel Base (LWB) vans, alongside a growing choice of electric SWB models. The move comes as businesses across the UK adjust to economic pressures and look for more flexible options. Keith Shorter, Director of Europcar Vans & Trucks UK, said the decision reflects market realities: “The latest data from the SMMT shows a subdued market for new van sales. New LCV registrations shrank by 12.1% in the first half of the year. And in July there was a 5.7% drop continuing the sector’s 8-month decline. This is not surprising given other pressures on UK businesses including the hike in minimum wage and NI costs. As a consequence, what we’re seeing is businesses keen to access short- and medium-term rental to fill their fleet gaps – rather than making long-term lease or purchasing commitments.” Europcar says its investment ensures vans are available for anything from one day to 36 months, offering companies greater flexibility. For firms pursuing sustainability goals, the addition of more small and SWB electric vans supports a transition to zero tailpipe emissions. With 75 Vans & Trucks branches nationwide, including 24 Supersites, Europcar claims one of the widest rental networks in the UK. Its commercial fleet is also among the youngest in the rental market, ensuring compliance with Clean Air Zones (CAZ) and London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ). The company has introduced several initiatives over the past year aimed at boosting efficiency and reducing costs for businesses. These include optional dash-cam installation to improve driver safety, cut insurance premiums, and enhance transparency around vehicle condition. Europcar has also sought to ease uncertainty for firms needing long-term rental. Its Long-Term Flex Van Hire solution offers fixed rates with flexible termination options for rentals spanning one to three years. Businesses can tailor mileage requirements, while free delivery and collection to homes or offices adds further convenience.
